An air brush works by passing a stream of compressed and fast moving air through a venturi which creates a reduction in pressure causing the paint to be pulled up from the reservoir that is hooked up underneath. The fast moving air atomizes the paint (or other fluid) into small droplets and carries the paint onto the surface of the object being painted/covered. The high level of atomization allows the air brush artist to achieve great smoothing and blending effects.
Dual action refers to the method action required to control the spray pattern. Pressing down on the button activates the amount of air flow and pulling back determines the amount of fluid released. This allows the user to change the width of line, color, and the opaqueness of color with one hand. This type of air brush models require more practice to use but are better for free hand detail work. These type of air brushes are recommended for experienced users who need to achieve a bigger variety of artistic effects. Also, these type of air brushes are more complicated in construction and thus more expensive compared to single action.
